What is a "mentee?"
A "mentee" is an individual who is 21 years and younger who is pregnant and/or parenting and is involved in a relationship with a mentor through the MMP program.
What is a young parent mentor?
A young parent mentor is someone who provides a young person with support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement, and a constructive example. The goal of a mentor is to help their mentee attain his or her potential as a parent.
Who is eligible for the Young Parent Program?
Any pregnant and/or parenting mother or father in need of support who lives in Greene County and is under the age of 21 is eligible for MMP services.
What is the time commitment for the mentor/mentee?
Each person is asked to commit to at least 6 hours per month at a minimum. This time commitment involves one hour weekly with each other and a two-hour monthly parent group. A year commitment is expected from both parties.
What is the MMP Baby Store?
The MMP Baby Store is a store that is open twice a year and filled with items that a mentee can purchase for themselves and/or their child. These items are available through Baby Bucks that a mentee has earned throughout the program.
How do I earn Baby Bucks?
Baby Bucks can be earned in many ways. They are earned for doing positive things for their child. This can include, but is not limited to: time spent with their mentor, attending monthly parent group meetings, attending parenting classes, attending scheduled doctor appointments, showing proof of current immunizations, anniversaries during mentored relationship, etc.
What are the monthly parent groups?
The monthly parent groups provide time for young parents and their mentors to join with MMP staff and discuss issues relevant to the life of a parent. It serves as a support group and an education group. The groups also provide time for young parents to meet other young parents and mentors participating in MMP.
What will I gain as a mentee in the MMP program?
As a mentee, you will learn how to be an excellent parent, how to enhance your life skills, and how to deal with the stress of parenting. You will also have the opportunity to experience a close relationship with a successful adult and other young adults who are experiencing parenthood.
What will I gain as a mentor in the MMP program?
As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to invest in the life of a young parent, providing guidance and support. You will contribute to the community by being a positive role model to a young person who needs added support while dealing with the stresses and concerns of pregnancy and parenting.
As an expecting/parenting father, how can I be involved with the MMP program?
As an expecting/parenting father, you will also have the opportunity to develop a relationship with a mentor in the community who can offer support and guidance. Expecting/parenting fathers are encouraged to be involved with the MMP program, as his role in the life of his children is equally important.
